Nokia Maps 3.0 with Ovi Maps
Link for more info
What's new from the previous release?
* Start-up sequence takes you to your current position as soon as position is found. If your position is not found in few seconds, you are taken to last known position
* You can rotate the map, so you can for example view 3D landmarks from all directions. Just press 4 and 6 in map view. Pressing 5 takes you back to 'north up' view
* In 3D view mode, you can tilt the view by pressing 2 and 8
* 2D/3D mode works with all map modes, i.e. with Map/Satellite/Terrain
* My Favourites menu is cleaned up and History list is moved higher in menu
* My Places has option "Point me to" for any saved place/landmark, you the direction to that place on the map
* In addition to the synchronisation of Favourites and Collections with Ovi Maps and vice versa (use in online mode, enable Internet connection), you can now plan routings on Ovi Maps and synchronise to your device
* Finally, many bugs have now been fixed
Compatibility and system requirements

Garmin XT Map Archive

In addition, I have also received requests for more maps. Basically, there are 2 types of maps available for use on Garmin XT. One is the official garmin release, which are sold in the form of SD cards or DVDs. They are available for various regions around the world. They come with an unlock code for you to unlock your maps, and they are quite costly. The other type of maps are of course custom maps put together using mapsource or similar programs.
Here in this post, I aim to provide links to all the maps that I currently have available to make it easy for you to locate them, and will add on as they become available. Hope you like this post. :)

GPS Maps for Singapore and other regions

My recommendation to get the latest maps for Singapore will be at http://gpsmaps.jwpixs.com or simply known as Jerome's Maps. The download section consists of 2 types of maps. Public and Donor. Public maps are free maps, while Donor maps are for "members only". To become a donor, simply donate to the site. I remembered it was something around $5. If you ask me, I will say it is worth it, as you get free updates on maps in Singapore and other regions as well.
As you might have guessed, the latest maps reside in the donor section. For most people though, the free maps are good enough. It is a personal choice. Just to note that all the Donor maps are locked. So you will need an unlock code from Jerome to free up the maps for use.

POI Pack for Garmin XT
In a previous post on how to get Garmin XT on your E71, I mentioned how to get the application on your E71 with Singapore maps for free. I am sure many of you already are happy navigating on your new toy. :)
One of the things you may be looking at next will be to add some POIs (Points of Interests) on your GPS system. You can find numerous user created POIs at Malsingmaps.com
However, to make it easy for you, I have created a POI pack for you to download here.
What it includes are:
1)AXS Stations
2) ERP Gantries
3) 4D/TOTO outlets
4) POSB/DBS ATMs
5) SAM Stations
6) Speed/Redlight Cameras
Just unzip the file, and copy all of the contents to your Garmin/POI directory, and you are done.
Happy navigating!

GPS for Nokia E71 - Updated
The Nokia E71 is really a feature packed phone with the inclusion of A-GPS. However, the nokia maps included is not free for use. So what are your options after the trial runs out?

Oh yes, there is Google Maps. While greatly accurate and good coverage worldwide, it does not offer turn by turn voice navigated routing. Imagine while you are driving and need directions, it is just impractical to look at your phone all the time. Having voice prompting like in a proper GPS system is the way to go, and safer as well.

Heard of Garmin XT? It is a a bluetooth GPS receiver made by Garmin for phones which do not have GPS built in. This is how it looks like:
The following is how to get the Garmin XT application on your Nokia E71 using the in-built GPS with Singapore maps for free.
I have updated this section with more details as quite a few people are having trouble installing the application and get it running.

For those of you who prefer a all-in-one download pack, download it here.
First download the following files and install them on your phone.
step 1 This is the installer for Garmin XT Version 4
Extract the files to your desktop. You should see a "Garmin Folder". Connect your phone in "mass storage" mode, and copy the entire "Garmin" folder to your memory card.
After that, in your phone, go to office-->file manager--->tab to mem card --->Garmin folder.
Inside you will see a "Garmin MobileXT.sis" file. Click on that, and it will install the Garmin XT program on your phone.
step 2 This is the installer for support files for Garmin XT Version 4
step 3 This is the installer for basemap for Garmin XT Version 4
For step 2 and 3, they install the same way. After you have downloaded the files, extract them, and the following should appear:
Click on setup, and you should get this:
Your memory card location should appear in the box. Select it and click install.
step 4 This is the installer for Garmin XT Version 5
Installing all the above files will give you the full set of files needed to run the Garmin XT application, plus updated to the latest version 5. If you choose not to upgrade to version 5, you can stop at step 3.
Step 5 - download Garmin Keygen here.

Input your GPS id and generate a software unlock code. Copy your generated code and paste it in notepad. Save the new file with the updated code under "sw.unl" file name. Now, copy "sw.unl" to your Garmin directory on your phone. Make sure you saved the file under "sw.unl" and not "sw.unl.txt". This step is important for the Garmin XT application to enable you to use the E71's internal GPS.
Where is the GPS ID?
After you installed the Garmin XT application successfully, start it up. When you get in, you will see 3 icons at the bottom, click on the middle one (Tools).

Then Click on settings.

Then scroll down and click on the "About" icon.

There you will see the version number. Below it is a series of numbers called the ESN. That is the ID you should put into the keygen.

Step 6 - download the Singapore map here, and put it in the Garmin directory in your phone. The map is unlocked, so no need for any unlock code.
You are done! Now power up your Garmin XT application on your phone, and you should have a working map ready to navigate. Enjoy!
If you run into any trouble, do leave a comment, and I will help you. :)
